Yes those were exactly like the gym slips we wore. I was the last group that had to wear them before the school became a comprehensive and the uniform was changed to navy blue skirt blouse and pullover. As to the knickers, yes ours were just to the top of the thighs. No protection from the slipper and the cane and sometimes strokes were deliberately given on the bare flesh at the top of the thighs on the crease which hurt when you stood up and walked about as well as sitting down.
ReplyDeleteI have a uniform just like the one on the left and my master punishes me in it often just as the picture shows, though mine tucks into the gymslip belt.
I am pleased they match. Uniform was by no means uniform, as there were almost as many variations as there were schools and often had to be purchased from specific shops where they were very expensive indeed. My sisted uniform was just such a one and even the size of the gingham squares was specific to the school and so could not be got anywhere else. She got a few sore bottoms for making a mess of blouses and such. Mine was just a blazer and tie which had to be bought at a specific shop. I think knickers and such were pretty generic though, she wore white cotton ones bit like lace. I seem to remember them being called interlock or some such.
