They were very common in the forties and fifties. I can understand your mum making you wear them as added punishment. You must have been mortified by that alone never mind the strapping you got too.

Exactly like those Sir. They were very itchy and made me fidget which got me more telling off and possibly smacks. The mortifying part of it was that they just showed under the skirts we wore then and so all could see.
